Leaving Glenwood Springs for Chicago.
The line and Highway 70 follow the Eagle River for 50 or so miles
Lots of Amtrack stock has tinted windows, which does affect the image
And give you odd effects like this, which you don’t notice at the time – always use a polarising filter!
Unlike the UK, freight takes precedence over passenger traffic, we waited 15 minutes or so at this junction for the priority freight
There’s lots of random stuff by the lineside
And some gorgeous stations, like Union Station LA
And lots of street art – or is that rail art
On most lineside structures and buildings
And most freight wagons
There’s a few preserved lines, such as the Durango and Silvertown, the locos are somewhat less elegant than ours, but impressive nonetheless
Though this one appears startled
Whilst in San Francisco the Peace Festival was taking place
It’s worth spending some time just wandering the streets of SF, for the wonderful Victorian town houses,
And the prolific street art, from the beautiful
And exquisite
To the somewhat disturbed…
