Daytripper – more than just a one way ticket…

There’s a really useful ticket for unlimited travel in South West Scotland that doesn’t appear on the National Rail page of “Rangers and Rovers“. It’s called a Daytripper and gives unlimited travel for one adult or two adults and up to four children in the Strathclyde region on ScotRail, the Glasgow Subway, most buses and some ferries.

It’s provided by SPT – Strathclyde Partnership for Transport (SPT) who are the largest of Scotland’s seven regional transport partnerships.  They run the Glasgow Subway and various bus services. Tickets are valid after 9.00am on Monday to Friday and all day at the weekends and on Glasgow public holidays. There’s a few exclusions and condition listed on the Strathclyde public transport daytripper page.

It covers a large area, on the railway down south as far as Barhill, Carstairs in the east and Ardlui in the north. The full map is available here.
It’s perfect to go and do an All The Stations “Have an adventure” day and the area includes what is probably their favourite Scottish station – Wemyss Bay.

It costs £22.50 for two adults and up to four children (5-15 years inc.) or £12.70 for one adult and up to two children (5-15 years inc.) You can buy your Daytripper ticket online, at a ticket office or from any staffed rail station. A really useful feature of the ticket is it’s like a scratchcard -you can buy them in advance and just scratch off the day that you will be using it – perfect for giving as presents!

There’s also a couple of other all day unlimited tickets available, The All day Subway ticket gives you one day unlimited travel on the Glasgow Subway for £4.20, and the Roundabout gives one-day unlimited travel by ScotRail and Subway to over 110 stations within the Greater Glasgow area for £7.20.
